HOW ALERTS WORK

How the math works.

Before The Data compares each artist against their own recent baseline and their size tier. Alerts fire when the move is big enough to be unlikely noise.

We calculate recent stream velocity, compare it to the artist's prior baseline, then scale the threshold by catalog size. Small catalogs can trigger on lower absolute gains; larger catalogs need a bigger move.
Follower Spike TikTok or Instagram
We look at 24-hour TikTok and Instagram follower deltas, then compare the gain to the artist's current follower base. The alert needs both meaningful absolute growth and percentage lift.
Cross-Platform Spike Highest signal
This fires when Spotify movement and social movement both cross their thresholds inside the same 3-day window. It is weighted higher because two independent platforms are confirming the same momentum.
UGC Accelerating Per song
We track TikTok and Instagram song-level post counts, calculate the latest 7-day gain, then compare it to the prior 7-day gain. The alert fires when creation rate is multiplying, not just when total posts are high.
Small Artist Breakout Under 50K followers
For artists under 50K followers, we watch listeners, followers, streams, and UGC over 7 days. A breakout alert fires when a primary metric roughly triples or shows an equivalent early-stage jump.
Reading the Board Desktop alerts
The left lane shows alerts from the last 7 days. The right lane shows previous alerts from the last 30 days. Click any alert row to open the specific trigger, date, move, and explanation.
How you receive them
Every alert respects your per-artist preference (Email / Profile / Off). Set it on the artist's profile or in Settings. You will never get more than 5 alert emails in a day. Additional alerts roll into a digest.

The Scout Network

Every artist here is tracked back to the scout who flagged them first.

BTD has a network of hand-picked early-listeners (we call them scouts) scattered across the world. They submit artists they think we should be watching. Chad personally reviews every submission. The first scout to flag an artist that we accept gets credit — permanent, public, attached to that artist forever on the dashboard.

Scouts get paid $50 per accepted submission. No caps. The credit you see on each artist page tells you who saw it first.
