Jean Dawson continues to blur every genre line he can find. Houston rides a funky, motorik groove with distorted guitars poking through a mix that somehow sounds both polished and blown-out at the same time. The Houston reference feels earned rather than cheap, tapping into the city's legacy without imitation. One of the more interesting voices working right now.
