She has always been better than her peers at writing from inside ambiguity rather than resolving it too quickly, and this track is a clean example. The Hackney-born, Brit School-trained singer has said that she is a hopelessly romantic person who is also clear-eyed about what love actually requires. "Something Inbetween" holds both of those things: the romanticism and the realism, in the same verse, without either canceling the other out. The album went to number one in the UK. The Grammy for Best New Artist followed in February 2026. We were paying attention well before both of those things, and songs like this one are exactly why.
