The Neighbourhood reformed in 2025 after a hiatus that left their status genuinely uncertain, brought back drummer Brandon Fried, and released their fifth album (((((ultraSOUND))))) on November 14. "OMG" was one of three lead singles, landing on October 23 alongside "Lovebomb" and "Private." The three-at-once release strategy was a deliberate signal: they were not easing back in. Jesse Rutherford has always written from a place of gothic pop sensibility: the Tumblr alt-rock heritage the band came up in, the dark production palette that made "Sweater Weather" and "Daddy Issues" work differently from most of their peers' material. The album's return of their upside-down house logo was a visual statement of that continuity. "OMG" operates in the same register: a sharp, guitar-forward track that earns the all-caps title. The Neighbourhood coming back with something this direct was not guaranteed. "OMG" made a strong case that the hiatus had been worth it.
